Why Video?
Sep 11th, 2008 by Eric
I have recently been asked to write an article on video services , for a bridal publication. I thought I would begin a few of my thought’s here. If anyone has any comments they would like to add, we would love to hear them.
I love what I do. Both the photography and the video aspects of this industry. I work with an outstanding crew. I really think that is the key. When photographing a wedding, you can tell such a true story to what happened on such a special day. I will never downplay the art of photography. It is my passion. Although video adds a lot to capturing the day. From the voices you can hear, the vows you speak, the laughter of the day, the toasts, to the loud cheers sending you off to your new life. Video, literally speaks volumes.
Some clients are a little shy to the concept of video for their day, whether they do not have the budget for video, or they may think photography is enough. But once they have seen a demonstration of what can be seen and felt through video, they are amazed at what they see. Todays videos are more cinematic. Not only capturing what happened that day, but telling your fairy tale event first hand. So many clients tell me of friends which had wished they had had a video. That the day went by so fast, and there were so many things they had missed, and they wish they could only relive it again, video adds that extra element to the memory.
I would never say substitute video for photography, but don’t leave those special memories, all that planning, to an uncle or friend to film. They want to be part of the festivities and enjoyment. I can imagine they do not want to be left with the pressure of creating a lasting memory for you. Much less do they have the professional skills to do so. But that is what we do.
We capture so many events, every year. We know what to look for, where to be in those special moments, how to tell your story. Technology has changed so much in the past years, and we keep up with the changes brides look for, and the look brides want in their video. We do not overkill the video with cheesy flying pictures or overdone fades, just because that is a new piece of software we found. We know what looks just right for you. We want this moment to last for you.
A comment, on the ‘team’. I have had a few times when we were not able to have our team of photography and video together. Because our full crew was shooting photography, or were already booked for another event that day. So, we were on site to work with another video company. The wedding was beautiful, and we got so many great images. Just one thing was not picture perfect. Instead of working like a fluid machine with our team, where the photographer leads the way for the photographs, as our video crew works with us, and we get what we know we have to have to make this the perfect day. Instead we had a crew that was working for their own agenda, trying to halt the photography to get what they needed. I was more than happy to help them in any way we could, they were a young video crew, and seemed like they need to find their way, but this slowed the process, where you know your coordinator is trying to meet her deadline to have you introduced, or even walked down the isle.
The team works as a team. I try to help any newcomers as best we can. Even though it may be a company we have never met, we are all looking to create that special memory for you. But that is why I think it works so much to benefit the bride to have both services with one company, that team aspect is so much stronger.
If we are already booked for photography that day, but you still would like to use our services for video, this too is to your benefit. We know the needs the photographer has to meet, and we respect that. We are able to capture our footage with never intruding on the photographer from another company. It benefits you to have professionals that know how to cover your event.
We are currently working on a project with another photography and video studio to create something in the coming year. Something that has never been done in this industry, and I hope that we are able to bring this to your wedding day.
Okay, maybe I need to work on this article a bit more, and just stick to the beauty of having video at your wedding day.
Closing thought. Photographs are a beautiful thing to behold from a professional eye. Add motion to that, and think of the story we can tell for You.
